On Saturday, October 28th, 2017, NYU Africa House cosponsored the 2017 Stern in Africa Business Forum.
The Forum featured three inspiring keynote speakers:
Bisila Bokoko, founder and CEO of BBES, a business development agency that represents, promotes and markets brands internationally
Chid Liberty, co-founder of Liberty & Justice, Africa’s first Fair Trade Certified™ apparel manufacturer
Samuel Alemayehu, active angel investor, Co-founder & Managing Director at Cambridge Industries Ltd., a renewable energy company in Africa
Through a TedTalk-style format, the keynote speakers discussed several topics including the journey of an entrepreneur, the energy landscape in Africa, and social entrepreneurship as a way to address challenges and gaps in social welfare. We also had six breakout panel sessions covering entrepreneurship, venture capital, entertainment & media, fashion, social impact, and technology, as well as an African-inspired lunch and networking reception!
The event concluded with a celebration of Stern in Africa’s partner organization, Young African MBAs (YAM), to commemorate YAM’s 5th-year anniversary. The celebration featured a performance from Congolese artist Young Paris, a keynote address from Charmaine Houvet, Public Policy Director at Cisco Africa, a cocktail hour, dinner, and great music!
