Hon. Tendai Biti is the Minister of Finance for the Government of National Unity in Zimbabwe, a position he has occupied since February 2009. He is a founding member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), assuming the post of Secretary-General in 2006. Minister Biti is a leading proponent of democratic and financial reforms in the country and is currently tasked with resuscitating Zimbabwe’s economy. Under his leadership, the use of the Zimbabwean dollar as an official currency was effectively abandoned on April 12, 2009. Also, with his background as a distinguished labor and human rights lawyer, he rose to prominence after handling high profile cases for the labor movement in the 1990s. This informal event was moderated by Africa House and followed by a Q&A session then wine and cheese reception.
