Friends of Africa Benefit Gala: Energy for Africa
On November 15th, NYU Africa House and The African Affairs Committee of the United Nations Association Southern New York State Division Young Professionals (“UNA-SNY Young Professionals”) held the annual Friends of Africa Benefit Gala, which celebrated “Energy for Africa.” Dr. Abeeku Brew-Hammond, board chairman, Energy Commission of Ghana, and member of the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Working Group for the Sustainable Energy For All (SEFA) Initiative was honored. Dr. Stephen Gitonga, policy advisor for the Environment and Energy Group of the Bureau for Development Policy, UNDP, was the keynote speaker. A portion of the proceeds from the night went towards supporting “Elephant Energy”, a non-profit based in Denver, Colorado and Katima Mulilo, Namibia. MTV Base Africa’s Vanessa Mdee hosted the evening and a DJ provided music and entertainment. Guests enjoyed a silent auction, raffle prizes, and refreshments.
