Africa and the Indian Ocean Conference
Over the course of three days, NYU Africa House held the Africa and the Indian Ocean Conference. The second in a three-year series, this conference highlighted and examined the centuries-old relationship between Africa and the broader Indian Ocean. This year’s conference focused on the relationship with the extended Indian Ocean region which, in addition to the African and the Arab Gulf nations, we define to include India and the islands in the Indian Ocean. The conference fostered conversations on the history, politics, and economics of these relationships, including issues of trade, land purchases, food security, and oil and commodity markets.
