19th Annual Conference of The African Econometric Society – Call for Papers

The African Econometric Society is an international society for the advancement of economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. Members of the society are associated with academic institutions, as well as stakeholders in the private and public sectors who share the goal of advancing econometric research, especially but not limited to African themes.
The 19th Annual Conference of the African Econometric Society will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the EEA Building from the 16th – 18th of July, 2014. The conference will cover various fields of economics:
Econometric theory
Applied econometrics
Economic modelling
Quantitative and non-quantitative economic analysis, and
a wide range of related topics.
Internationally renowned econometricians delivered keynote speeches at the previous conferences organized by the AES. Past Keynote speakers included: Peter Phillips, Soren Johansen, David Hendry, Arnold Zellner, Hashem Pesaran, Badi Baltagi, Richard Blundell, John Moore, Abhijit Banerjee, Nour Meddahi, Kaddour Hadri, and Jushan Bai among others. The distinguished keynote speakers of the AES 2014 conference will be announced shortly.
Note that AES is transitioning into the Africa Region Chapter of the Econometric Society, and so the conference will be the Africa Regional Conference of the Econometric Society.
Submission Requirements
Organizers invite abstracts of papers to be presented in the conference. Papers are expected to cover diverse fields in econometric theory as well as applied econometrics, economic modeling, economic analysis, and a large range of related topics in applied economics and statistics.
The abstracts submitted should be less than 700 words (approximately two pages). The submission should include the title of the research paper, JEL classification numbers matching the research, the author(s) and corresponding author contact information (mailing address, phone, fax, and email address). In the abstract, clearly describe the research questions being addressed, the methodology and expected results and conclusion. Abstracts must be prepared in standard MS Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF format. At least one author of an accepted paper must pay the registration fee and attend the conference. The abstract should reach the organizers before 7th March 2014 or be electronically sent to snuru@eeaecon.org, seidnali@yahoo.com, and demirewget@yahoo.com. Authors will be notified on the status of their papers by April 11th, 2014. Full-length papers for accepted abstracts are due by June 3rd, 2014 at the latest.
Conference Fees
US$ 120 for early registration, before May 16th, 2014
US$ 150 for registration after May 16th, 2014
Paper-presenting graduate students will pay a special registration fee of US$ 25.
Grants will be availed to young African researchers who wish to present papers during the conference. The allocation of the grants will, however, be on a competitive basis and applications will be evaluated by a review committee. The grants will cover travel and accommodation expenses. Applications for grants should be sent by March 7th, 2014 and should be accompanied by the applicant’s CV and detailed abstract. Selected applicants will be informed by end of March 2014.
